Sketchnotes – The artist within you!
Sketching/doodling on one corner of our notepad is something we all would have done sometime or the other while attending meetings or listening to lectures. Triangles, stars, different shapes, scenery all around the borders of our page. For a lot of us it helps us focus while listening, but to others it looks like we are not paying attention. I learnt about sketchnotes a few months back, when after an important discussion just to be sure that I have not missed out on anything checked notes with a colleague. To my surprise all I could see were sketches all over, which I thought was a creative and interesting way to capture notes. With the help of social media I learnt more about sketch notes which got me deep insights to how doodling can help remember and capture important information in a creative way.
To begin with, Sketchnotes are rich visual notes created from a mix of handwriting, drawings, hand-drawn typography, shapes, and visual elements like arrows, boxes, and lines.( http://derekbruff.org/ ) One does not require high drawing skills, but require skills to visually synthesize and summarize shapes, connecters and text. This form of note taking can be used by professional, students, or anyone who wants to capture information. Although I have not tired my hand enough, practicing it will make it better. Instead of writing an entire paragraph, one can start capturing their thoughts through sketches in their personal diaries. Sketchnotes have been around for long now. But very few people are aware about it and some still think the conventional way of capturing notes is better. There is amazing amount of information available on the internet, apps that you can download also a software that digitalizes your sketchnote from verbal to visual.
